TOPIC: Sizing photos for PGOB & October Exhibition?

Sizing photos for PGOB & October Exhibition? 04 Jul 2019 18:02 #6086

I have been playing about to get a photo to the correct size... for PGOB nights and the October Exhibition
My first attempt was way too big (see bottom EXIF data)

Using Denise's helpful pdf, I 'exported' from LR with settings of 1920x1080, limit to 1500kb, and 72ppi.... and I think the top image is correct.

A bit unsure about the 'inches' though as it says they are bigger than the 16x12 or 12x8 for the October exhibition.
Do I need to keep resizing until that measurement is correct?

Regards
Sharon G

Hi Sharon, for the initial preview you will only need the standard club night projected sizing (1920 x 1080), after the preview/comments make any changes you may want (or not) and then we will ask everyone to submit their images for print and once final image sizing is decided we can assist.

Thanks Mike ... I get a bit confused with all the different number types...but think I have it sorted now.

Resolution is the 1920 x 1080 (max, but can be smaller) ,
300 (or 72) is what I call DPI (dots per inch) I think (pixels...)
1.5mb is the size of the file when saved (max, but can be smaller) ,
and then the Inches of the printed size...eg 10 x 8, 5x7 etc

I don't want to bugger up my first club night submission :D

Yeah I think I got it sorted Chris, Thanks

Just need to find enough courage to take one to the printer now... I know my monitor isn't showing me what the photo will really look like :D

Sharon, if you take your image into Camera House and tell them your a member (use your discount card) and relatively new to printing etc I'm sure they will assist - I have taken several images in over time and just said I'm not sure about the colour or something and we have worked through and got it to where it looked good. The other benefit of doing this is that these guys will be doing the printing for our exhibition (for those of us that don't print our own images) so it will also give you a good idea on how the image on your screen looks and what it will print like.

That's the plan.... once I get an image looking 'just right' on the monitor. Thanks Mike

TIP: Beware 'night mode' :D
I couldn't work out why a photo I was working on in the afternoon looked different in the evening.
At first I thought maybe it was just my eyes were getting tired - then it clicked!
My monitor changes itself at a certain time each day to a setting suitable for overhead lights instead of daylight through a window etc
