Further to discussions from club night, we are looking to undertake 2 (can be more) weekend trips for members next year, we are targeting Autumn (April/May) and Spring (Sept/Oct). As you can appreciate, there will need to be some planning/arranging to be put in place, so if you have any suggestions on a possible location can you list them below and preferably add the following information by end of July:

Location/Distance
Accommodation i.e camping only/self managed cottages/max-min numbers if area is limited/costs etc
Photographic opportunities
Spring or Autumn destination

Look forward to seeing opportunities for next year

Chris with Dryandra I'm assuming this will be a Spring destination, what about Nanga?

Don't think it would matter, I went in the middle of winter. I guess it depends on what peeps want to do when out that way.

I stayed at Perup with 20 odd noisy kids some years ago. Always thought it would be nice to go back!

Definitely a nature weekend as there's not a lot else out that way - although not too far from the Frankland area for Wineries.

A little further away (about 3:30 hours drive) but different from other suggestions as it not so 'nature' based, though there is the opportunity for nature shots, depending on the season my recommendation is New Norcia. It also provides an opportunity to see something very unique in our West Australian history.

You can do it as a day trip (I have several times), but needs a very very early start if you want to may the most of good light, unless winter. As an overnight, there is caravan park, hotel and if a date is selected early enough, the possibility of accommodation within the monastery itself for some.

They also do hostel accommodation in one of the old schools for groups but I don't know anything about the details/requirements for that (eg size of group, facilities etc)

Staying at New Norcia is a bit like visiting somewhere in Europe. It is extraordinary. I would definitely recommend including the 'town tour' in the itinerary so you get to see in buildings otherwise closed to the public. We might even be able to contact them to get special tours so we can linger longer to take pics inside in exchange for a collection of images from the club.

Genres would be Architecture, landscapes (incl rural landscape) and travel. There is also macro - rust, grunge, old equipment, peeling paints etc.
Time to travel - late winter or spring (absolutely avoid summer)

I did a personal project on it a few years ago and have attached a few pics to give you an idea of what you might see

We stayed for a night last year but didn’t have time for the tour.

Would be keen to go again as we missed the best light by the time we arrived and then had a really overcast flat day to follow.

I have previously been there with a group for work and we had one of the Monks talk about the history of the town and monastic life during one of the breaks. It was really fascinating.

I’d go again, I think it would be a nice Autumn location, but good any time of year.
