Opening Night - Biennial Setagaya Photo Exhibitio 11 Jul 2019 19:27 #6121

As mentioned at club night the City of Bunbury and the Art Gallery are having an exhibition opening of the images from Setagaya, Japan. It is on tomorrow night - Friday July 12th - 6 pm start

Join us in a celebration of cultures as we view the photos from Bunbury's Sister City - Setagaya, Japan. Setagaya and Bunbury have been Sister Cities since the original agreement was signed by Mayor Ernie Manea in 1992. As part of the relationship Bunbury and Setagaya each hold beinnial photo competitions where the top 40 photos are shared with each other. This exhibition features the top 37 photos taken by amatuer photographers living in Setagaya. The photos in the collection feature photos from Japan and around the world, reflecting the eye of the photogapher.

Thank you to Geographe Wines, wine event sponsor.

Also opening that night are two other exhibitions:
Olga Cironis - You Made Me Do It
Olga Cironis is a multidisciplinary artist examining notions of belonging in today’s cultural globalisation. Explored in her diverse practice are the murky undertones of history and memory and the impact of these upon personal and shared identity. Recognising that camouflage was designed by artists for war, this current series of work symbolises both war and peace, a disturbing lament for one’s inevitable loss of innocence.

Narrowcast
Narrowcast is an endurance performance in which the artists install a radio studio in gallery space and ‘narrowcast’ during opening hours. This work explores the practice of improvised speech and shares the experience of placing it under the pressure of durational performance. Vahri McKenzie and Siobhan Maiden improvise the work using ‘scores’, a tool for performing artists that helps to structure the work produced. Narrowcast will be performed daily 10am - 4 pm from Saturday 13 July to Sunday 21 July. Entry is free.
