Pemberton's Annual Photography Comp and Exhibition is now going to be a part of the month long Uneathed Pemberton Festival
Topics are: Ephemeral and Country - Mono, in the South West

Entries due in by 10th April see attached for more details

They haven't defined it but I'm going by what I read "not long lasting"

This is an interesting topic and like most topics where a definition hasn't been provided it is subject to interpretation.

ALL photography is EPHEMERAL - it is a snapshot of time, that moment of capture will never been repeat. However, that's not what I think they mean

I think Chris's is right - but I would go as far as to a "Fleeting", or a glimpse of something.

I think the topic lends itself to abstracts, or images with movement (either frozen by a fast shutter or with motion blur if the subject is people moving through a scene), it could be a that moment of a sunrise where the clouds (away from the sun) get that bright glow to them as they are kissed by the rising sun where it only lasts seconds. It could be a portrait of more than one subject showing interaction between them (parent and baby, kids and puppies or kittens.

I think that 'soft' light would probably work best

I think is it a great topic and a good one for next year's schedule.

Entries for this competition close this Sun 10th but the entries don't have to be delivered to Pemberton until 24th (you might like to check that if you're going to enter)
